Bill Behrens, 66, died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Hospital University of Pennsylvania. He grew up in Carlisle and was the son of William Behrens and Marie Mommen Behrens. Bill graduated from Carlisle High School in 1965.
Bill is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several decorations including the Combat Action Ribbon and the Navy Unit Commendation. He served four years with distinction as a Marine in Vietnam with the 3rd Marine Amphibious Forces which included the TET Offensive of 1968. Upon returning stateside, he served as a Marine Corps Drill Instructor in the Third Recruit Training Battalion at Parris Island, SC.
After his honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from Bible College and served at Fairhaven Baptist Church located in Chesterton, IN for over 26 years. He served as a youth pastor and camp director, then went on to become associate pastor of the Church and Vice President of the Church’s college, Fairhaven Baptist College.
Mr. Behrens is survived by his wife, Marlene McBride Behrens, of 42 years; four children, Will Behrens, Christina Behrens Burkhardt, JoAnn Behrens Trout, and Cindy Behrens Zdziarski; and 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Marie L. Behrens; sisters, Patty Behrens Garver, Wanda Behrens Jones and Nancy Behrens Wolf. He was preceded in death by his father, William R. Behrens; and his brother, David L. Behrens.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 7 at 10 a.m. at Valley Baptist Church, 200 Airport Rd., Coatesville, PA. After the visitation, the service will be held at the Rolling Green Memorial Park, 1008 Westchester Pike, West Chester, PA.
