HS Swimming Previews: Mechanicsburg's Megan Crow

Mechanicsburg’s Megan Crow is the only returning swimmer with postseason experience on the suddenly young Wildcats.

Last year: 2-8 (2-5)

Postseason: 21st in District 3 Class 3A Championships.

Opener: Tuesday vs. Bishop McDevitt, 4:15

Breakdown: The Colts don’t have deep numbers, and they also must account for the graduation loss of Ava Arnold, who qualified for districts in two events last season. Junior Lily Markley placed seventh in the 100 back at the Mid-Penn Championships and was a district qualifier. Junior Katie LaFaver was a district diving qualifier.

Mechanicsburg Wildcats

Classification: 3A

Last year: 8-4 (6-1)

Postseason: 28th in District 3 Class 3A Championships.

Key returners: Ilana Jacobson, so.; Megan Crow, so.; Averi Orner, jr.; Molly Snyder, so.; Olivia Moyer, jr.

Opener: Monday at Red Land, 4:15

Breakdown: Graduation took a bite out of the Wildcats, but they do return a number of underclassmen who played key roles a year ago. Sophomore Megan Crow is the only returnee to have competed in individual postseason events.

Red Land Patriots

Coach: Chris Sherbo

Classification: 3A

Last year: 6-7 (4-3)

Postseason: Tied 25th in District 3 Class 3A Championships.

Key returners: Caitlin Fox, sr.; Sydney Stupka, so.; Paige Richards, jr.

Opener: Monday vs. Cedar Cliff, 4:15

Breakdown: The Patriots have good enough numbers to garner some dual-meet points, although they do not return any District 3 qualifiers. Sophomore Sydney Stupka will look to build on a solid freshman campaign, while senior Caitlin Fox leads Red Land’s solid contingent of upperclassmen.
