HS Swimming Previews: Carlisle's Meg Tate

Meg Tate and Carlisle should have plenty to give the thumbs up for this season. Tate is part of a trio of veteran talent back for the improving Thundering Herd.

Postseason: 17th in District 3 Class 3A Championships.

Opener: Tuesday vs. Central Dauphin, 4

Breakdown: The Carlisle girls squad has been trending upward in recent years, and the Thundering Herd will look to keep that momentum going. The trio of senior Maddison Young, junior Meg Tate and sophomore Sierra Young has played a big role in making Carlisle a strong dual-meet squad, and this year the three returning District 3 qualifiers will attempt to nab some postseason hardware. Freshman Lauren Musser and War College transfer Alice Messina will give a boost.

Cumberland Valley Eagles

Coach: G. Michael Gobrecht

Classification: 3A

Last year: 10-3 (6-1)

Postseason: 5th in District 3 Class 3A Championships; Tied 45th in PIAA Class 3A Championships.

Key returners: Lindsey Berra, sr.; Liza Jackson, sr.; Payton Perry, sr.; Carolyn Bolden, jr.; Riley Hester, so.

Opener: Friday with Dallastown at Wilson, 4:15

Breakdown: The Eagles were their usual solid selves last season, placing second in team points at the Mid-Penn Championships and fifth at the District 3 Class 3A Championships. Senior Liz Jackson claimed a pair of district medals (200 free, 500 free), and sophomore Riley Hester will look to build on a strong freshman campaign in which she earned a district medal in the 100 fly. Both swimmers were also part of two medal-winning relay squads.
