Sentinel file

Big Spring Bulldogs

Coach: Les Stover

Classification: 2A

Last year: 12-1 (6-0)

Postseason: 5th in District 3 Class 2A Championships; 6th in PIAA Class 2A Championships.

Key returners: Jackson Penner, sr.; Brennan Flory, sr.; Mason Thrush, sr.; Dain Vallie, jr.; Quinton Egger, jr.; Ian Ward, soph.; Levi Fertig, jr.; Connor Greene, sr.; Mason McCullough, jr.; Gavin Reynolds, jr.

Opener: Saturday at Dover Tournament, 9 a.m.

Breakdown: Graduation has dinged the Bulldogs, who lost a decorated class of 2017 that included state champion Dillon Novak (diving) and state silver medalist Jarod Anderson (100 breast, 200 IM). That’s a lot of points to make up, but there is still talent in Newville. Jackson Penner and Brennan Flory were part of the 200 freestyle relay team that claimed fifth at states last year. Dain Vallie also nabbed a district fourth-place medal as part of the 400 freestyle relay squad.

Boiling Springs Bubblers

Coach: Matt Brenner

Classification: 2A

Last year: 9-2 (5-1)

Postseason: 4th in District 3 Class 2A Championships; 11th in PIAA Class 2A Championships.

Key returners: Dalton Fink, sr.; Zach Orris, sr.; Kevin Barnes, jr.; Jack Still, jr.; Jordan Morrett, jr.; Cole Edwards, jr.; Garrett Asper, soph.; Cole Ellis, soph.; Joe Lynch, soph.; Matt Otto, soph.; Kyle Shively, soph.

Opener: Saturday at Dover Tournament, 9 a.m.

Breakdown: Boiling Springs finished fourth in team points at the District 3 Championships last season, and the Bubblers figure to be competitive again despite the loss of state medalists Billy Webber and Peter Greenbaum, the former of whom set school records in the 100 and 200 freestyle. Zach Orris and Kevin Barnes snagged state medals last year as part of the 200 free relay squad, and they will be supplemented by a crop of promising freshmen capable of nabbing some depth points.

East Pennsboro Panthers

Coach: Shannon Milstead and Kristyn Gross

Classification: 2A

Last year: 1-6 (0-5)

Postseason: 19th in District 3 Class 2A Championships.

Key returners: Erik Brudowsky, sr.; Jacob DeGrange, soph.; Josh Wagner, soph.

Opener: Dec. 14 with Harrisburg Academy, Northern at Cumberland Valley, 4:30

Breakdown: The Panthers’ boys roster is only three strong, but among the group is senior Erik Brudowsky, who qualified for the District 3 championships last season in the 200 IM and the 100 breast.

Northern Polar Bears

Coach: Bill Resser

Classification: 2A

Last year: 5-5 (3-3)

Postseason: 13th in District 3 Class 2A Championships.

Key returners: Jeremy Sampson, sr.; Nick Catalano, jr.; Zach Chavey, jr.; Ben Graham, jr.; Sean Clark, soph.; Shawn Cutright, soph.; Aric Graham, soph.; Noah Spencer, soph.

Opener: Tuesday at Central York, 4:30

Breakdown: The Polar Bears suffered some graduation losses, notably district medalist Ethan Spencer, but their depth will remain intact thanks to an influx of 12 new swimmers, half of whom are freshmen. Sophomore Noah Spencer claimed an eighth-place medal in the 100 back last year at the District 3 Championships, and junior Ben Graham and sophomore Shawn Cutright were both part of district-qualifying relay squads.

Shippensburg Greyhounds

Coach: Jeff Kaminski

Classification: 2A

Last year: 3-4 (3-3)

Postseason: 10th in District 3 Class 2A Championships.

Key returners: Sam Nonemaker, sr.; Eli Zinn, jr.; Caleb Eveland, sr.; Kaiden Estep, jr.; Alvin Dalida, sr.; Bailey Renfrew, sr.; Alec Sites, jr.; Cameron Cramer, soph.; Zach Massey, jr.

Opener: Tuesday vs. Trinity, 4:30

Breakdown: The Greyhounds will need to find some depth in order to compete in team races, but there is certainly some talent returning at the top of the lineup. Senior Sam Nonemaker claimed fourth-place District 3 finishes in both the 200 free and the 500 free, and junior Eli Zinn took seventh in the 50 free. Senior Caleb Eveland and junior Kaiden Estep were also district qualifiers.

Trinity Shamrocks

Coach: Michael MacDonald

Classification: 2A

Last year: 4-6 (1-4)

Postseason: 12th in District 3 Class 2A Championships.

Key returners: Riley Spahr, sr.; Tommy Chase, soph.; Rece Shelly, soph.

Opener: Tuesday at Shippensburg, 4:30

Breakdown: The Shamrocks were a young squad last season, but those underclassmen showed some promise. Senior Riley Spahr was a district medalist in the 100 back, and he also placed second in diving. Sophomore Tommy Chase was eighth at districts in the 200 IM, and he, Spahr and sophomore Rece Shelly were part of a 200 medley relay squad that finished sixth.
