CV to recommend new boys' basketball coach
Cumberland Valley School District will recommend at the May 18 school board meeting that Michael E. Hibbs be named the high school’s new head boys’ basketball coach. That’s according to a press release from the school district Thursday afternoon.
The board is expected to vote on his appointment during the 7 p.m. meeting. The recommended appointment will also include a position as a secondary English teacher.
“We are both excited and honored that Coach Hibbs wants to bring his talents to CV,” said Athletic Director Mike Craig. “His basketball experience is very extensive and I believe he will be a great asset to our program at all levels.”
If approved by the board, Hibbs will bring to Cumberland Valley High School more than 20 years of experience as a head basketball coach. It is a position he currently holds at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Md.
Hibbs previously coached at Loyola Blakefield School (Baltimore, Md.), DeMatha Catholic High School (Hyattsville, Md.) and The Bullis School (Potomac, Md.), where he tallied the most wins of any basketball coach in the school’s history.
“A successful coach can relate to his or her students both on and off the field,” said Dr. William Harner, Superintendent of Schools.
“Michael Hibbs’ background is impeccable in both the athletic and academic arenas. I have complete confidence our students will find continued success under his strong guidance and leadership.”
Hibbs earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park, and is trained to teach both International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Placement (AP) English courses.
